The widely embraced ISTE Standards give teachers a foundation for developing learning experiences that are high-impact and sustainable for every student.
One of the teachers who embodied and exemplified these standards was my EIL teacher, sister Wright. One of the ISTEs that she exemplified was being a citizen. Being a citizen means "Educators inspire students to positively contribute to and responsibly participate in the digital world" (ISTE 2.3). She taught me to leverage the internet/technology to further the knowledge I acquired from her discussion. I have learned to find sources and websites where I practice my listening, reading, and writing skills, which helped me pass her class. Another ISTE that she embodied was being a collaborator. Being a collaborator means "Educators dedicate time to collaborate with both colleagues and students to improve practice, discover and share resources and ideas, and solve problems." She always had us paired or grouped for activities and peer reviews. She also monitored, gave feedback, and helped us individually with our studies, and because of her hands-on teaching, it made me feel that she was a reliable teacher.
The most important standards and indicators for me as a teacher are being a learner, a leader, and a collaborator. Teachers can effectively and confidently incorporate innovative methods by continually learning and establishing a productive learning environment. Delivering knowledge is only one aspect of effective teaching; another is realizing the consequences of one's actions and improving continually. Teacher leaders frequently serve as role models, offering much-needed support, direction, and counsel. In this capacity, they win people over and cultivate empathy, fostering a welcoming and safe learning environment for students and fellow teachers. Lastly, teacher collaboration allows educators to exchange ideas, make thoughtful strategies, and collaborate efficiently.
Jolina, your reflection on the ISTE Standards and how your EIL teacher, Sister Wright, embodied them is great. It's amazing to see how she integrated digital citizenship and collaboration into her teaching, encouraging you to use technology for learning and creating a supportive classroom environment. I completely agree with you on the importance of being a learner, leader, and collaborator as a teacher. Continuous learning, leadership, and teamwork are indeed crucial for creating effective and engaging learning experiences. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Thanks for your thoughts! I appreciated your focus on being a collaborator. Sometimes I groan inside when teacher have us pair off for group work, because it requires more effort on my part haha. But I think that's why it's so effective; we learn so much more through it. Great point!
